COLORADO TORNADO

LAST THURSDAY WE HAD A HUGE TORNADO COME WAY TO CLOSE TO HOME. THE TORNADO TOUCHED DOWN 20 MILES FROM OUR HOUSE AND HEADED OUR WAY. I WAS WORKING AND JAMIE WAS ON HIS WAY HOME{THE WEATHER WAS TO BAD TO WORK IN}. TAYLOR WAS AT HOME BABYSITTING THE BOYS. JAMIE WAS SUPPOSED TO BE HOME A HALF AN HOUR AFTER I LEFT THE HOUSE. NEITHER ONE OF US HAD ANY IDEA WE WERE GOING TO HAVE SEVERE WEATHER. WAY TO GO WEATHER MAN!!! I HEARD THE TORNADO WAS HEADING FOR EVANS/GREELEY AT WORK AND WENT INTO A COMPLETE PANIC. JUST THEN OUR POWER WENT OUT AND THE EMPLOYEES WERE NOT ALLOWED TO LEAVE THE BUILDING UNTIL THE POWER CAME BACK ON SO WE COULD SET THE ALARMS. I CALLED THE NEIGHBORS AND THEY WENT AND GOT THE CHILDREN AND TOOK THEM INTO THEIR BASEMENT. MEANWHILE JAMIE WAS DRIVING DOWN HWY 34 AND WAS GETTING STRUCK BY BASEBALL/SOFTBALL SIZED HAIL. HE STOPPED UNDER THE WINDSOR EXIT OVERPASS TO GET OUT OF THE HAIL. HE SAID IT WAS PITCH BLACK IN FRONT OF THEM AND IT WAS HARD TO SEE THROUGH THE HAIL. IT WAS SO HUGE THEY DIDN'T REALIZE IT WAS A TORNADO UNTIL IT STARTED MOVING ACROSS THE HWY. THE TORNADO PASSED A HALF MILE IN FRONT OF THEM. IT WAS ALMOST A MILE WIDE. I WAS DISAPPOINTED HE DID NOT GET PICTURES {THE CAMERA WAS IN THE TRUCK WITH HIM} BUT I UNDERSTAND THAT HE PROBABLY WAS NOT THINKING ABOUT TAKING PICTURES RIGHT AT THAT MOMENT. :} THE TORNADO TRAVELED DIAGONALLY NORTH/WEST AND PASSED OUR HOME BY 3 MILES. THAT IS THE CLOSEST WE HAVE COME TO A TORNADO. HOPEFULLY IT WILL STAY THAT WAY. THANK YOU FOR THE CALLS OF CONCERN. WE WERE VERY LUCKY. ESPECIALLY JAMIE, IF IT HADN'T BEEN FOR THE HAIL HE VERY WELL MIGHT HAVE DROVE A LITTLE TO CLOSE. JAMIE'S TRUCK WAS BANGED UP PRETTY GOOD. A LOT OF DENTS, A CRACKED WINDSHIELD AND A MISSING WINDSHEILD WIPER.ONE OF THE BIGGER PIECES OF HAIL HIT THE WIPER JUST RIGHT AND KNOCKED IT OFF THE TRUCK. BUT DONT WORRY! WITH HARD HAT ON HE WENT OUT AND GRABBED IT. HERE ARE SOME PICTURES OF JAMIE'S TRUCK. HE IS NOW SPORTING A NEW WINDSHIELD {AND WIPER} BUT HE WILL BE KEEPING THE DENTS IN THE HOOD AND ON THE REST OF THE TRUCK AS A REMINDER OF HIS NEAR MISS. THE PICTURES DIDN'T TURN OUT VERY WELL. IT'S HARD TO SEE ALL THE DENTS AND CRACKS.

WE TOOK TAYLOR TO THE EYE DOCTOR AND HAD HER "FITTED" FOR CONTACTS. SHE DID VERY WELL! SHE CAN NOW TAKE OUT AND PUT IN HER CONTACTS IN 10 MINUTES. SHE IS VERY EXCITED. WE ORDERED HER A NEW PAIR OF GLASSES JUST IN CASE. MY POOR BABY'S PRESCRIPTION WAS NOT UP TO DATE. HER OLD GLASSES WERE - 2.25, HER NEW GLASSES ARE
-3.25 IN HER RIGHT EYE AND -3.75 IN HER LEFT. WHEN HER NEW GLASSES COME IN WE WILL HAVE TO TAKE SOME MORE PICS. HERE SHE IS IN HER CONTACTS!

WE LEFT SATURDAY MORNING TO GO TO MY SISTER, KIM'S HOUSE FOR CHRISTMAS. THE ROADS GRADUALLY GOT WORSE AS WE TRAVELED NORTH.I-80 THROUGH WYOMING WAS AWFUL. THE ROADS WERE VERY SLICK IN SPOTS AND HAD PERIODS OF ZERO VISIBILITY. WE CONTINUED TO TRUDGE ON. HOWEVER, 15 MILES EAST OF RAWLINS WE WERE DETOURED OFF 1-80 BY THE SHERIFFS DEPT. WE PULLED OVER TO SPEAK TO THE OFFICER AND HE INFORMED US THAT THERE WAS A MAJOR CAR PILE UP AND THAT THE ROAD WOULD BE CLOSED FOR SEVERAL HOURS. MUCH TO OUR DISMAY WE TURNED AROUND AND HEADED HOME, WE WERE VERY SAD NOT TO BE ABLE TO SPEND CHRISTMAS WITH OUR FAMILY BUT VERY GRATEFUL THAT WE WERE SAFE. WE FOUND OUT THE NEXT DAY THAT A FAMILY OF FOUR HIT BLACK ICE AND WAS STRUCK BY A SEMI LOADED WITH TRAILER. THE MOTHER, FATHER AND NINETEEN YEAR OLD DAUGHTER WERE KILLED. THEIR 17 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER WAS LIFE FLIGHTED TO DENVER BUT SHE WILL MAKE IT. WE HAVE THEM IN OUR PRAYERS. TAYLOR WAS VERY ANGRY, SHE TOLD ME THAT HER PRAYERS HAD NOT BEEN ANSWERED. HER PRAYER WAS TO ARRIVE TO AUNT KIM'S SAFELY. I HAD TO EXPLAIN TO HER THAT WE COULD NOT HAVE BOTH, AND THAT HEAVENLY FATHER DID ANSWER HER PRAYERS...WE WERE SAFE. WE HOPE YOU ARE ALL SAFE FOR THE HOLIDAYS. IF YOU ARE TRAVELING ...... PLEASE BE SAFE!! HERE ARE THE KIDS SLEEPING ON OUR WAY TO UTAH. I WAS JOKING WITH THE KIDS. WE HAD STOPPED TO USE THE REST AREA ABOUT A HALF HOUR BEFORE WE HAD TO TURN AROUND. Billy had an eventful day today. If he was a cat he is now down to 8 lives. I was following Jamie to the auto shop to have his work truck worked on. We were heading up to Estes park and thought to bring billy along. The leash that I had him tied in the back with was too long and when he put his front paws on the side of the truck he slipped and fell out of the truck. Unfortunately I was on the highway going about 45-50 mph. I slammed on the brakes, {oops thank goodness i didn't get rear ended} When I jumped out of the truck he was happily wagging his tail. ACK! He jumped right up into the truck and was happy as can be. After I picked up Jamie we looked him over and put pressure on all his limbs. He only suffered some road rash. SO, on to Estes we go. Billy found a squirrel that he just had to have. He ran around and jumped all over the place. We will keep an eye on him...but he looks like he will be fine. Just some bumps and bruises.

The kids are all ready to go out and get some candy. The weather held up and it wasnt too cold. Taylor and her "band" dressed up as Devils angels. Jarod is a pirate and Caden is a "commando GI Joe army guy". We had MAJOR problems with Jarod's costume. It originally had a big rubber/latex mask that was shaped like a hammer head shark. he was the "shark guy" off of pirates of the Carribean 3. we soon discovered after trying on the costume that Jarod had an allergic reaction to the mask. He was covered in hives and his chest felt tight. After visiting the doctor and a lot of benedryl and cortisone cream, we have found out that Jarod is allergic to latex. He has an appointment for the allergist at the end of the month. in the mean time he is taking zyrtec and has to stay away from anything latex. We will keep you informed.

TAYLOR'S CHOIR GROUP SANG THE NATIONAL ANTHEM AT A UNC BEARS GAME IN GREELEY. IT WAS FREEZING!!!! THEY MADE THE KIDS TAKE OFF THEIR JACKETS RIGHT BEFORE THEY SANG. SOME OF THE LITTLE MOUTHS WERE SEEN QUIVERING. THEY HAD A BLAST.

Last month we went to Idaho and utah to visit my family. It has been a long time since we were all able to get together. 4 years? We first went to Pocatello to stay with my mom and dad for a couple of days. We went to the museum, and had the famous space burgers for lunch afterwards. We then went to visit my Great-grandmothers grave. That was very hard for me. I was not able to make it to her funeral. I was glad that I was finally able to say goodbye. Then we went to visit Blake. It is hard to describe the feeling I get when We visit his grave. Sad for missed opportunities, peaceful, I guess, knowing that I will see him again. My step-Great- Grandafthers grave was not far from my brothers. There had been some flooding or something and the grave had sunk. The grounds keeper had moved his stone some 8 feet away by another grave. Jamie picked it up. {had to weigh 150 lbs] and put it back at the top of his grave. I have to say that he wasnt a very nice man, but it felt wrong to leave it looking like that. Aftwerwards we went back to mom and dads. Grandma and Grandpa Thomas were there also and we had a nice dinner.

We played and goofed around for a couple of days. we had a blast....then off to Utah to stay at my sisters house! Thank goodnes she has a huge house! there were 15 of us in that house. YIKES! but it worked out. We went to the Lagoon, an amusement park. We had so much fun. Actually it took a while, the whole park lost power right as we got there. We had already bought our tickets so we decided to wait it out. We walked around for about an hour before the park regained power. here are some pictures. Whoo hoo we had a great day!

They had a shark exhibit at the fair. They actually had lemon sharks and nurse sharks. The boys were very excited. They had an underwater shark cage the kids could play in. LOOK OUT BEHIND YOU!!! oh, but Caden has a sword, I am sure they will be fine. LOL!! Go get 'em Caden!!

Taylor LOVED this ride. One set of legs belong to Taylor. Not sure which one. This was the last ride they went on. A thunderstorm blew in and we left to go get dinner. By 10 pm the storm blew out and we watched the fire works display from a local park.

We took the kids to the Greeley fair for the 4th of July. We were able to get the kids wrist bands so they could ride as many times as they wanted. I am surprised no one got sick! Jarod, Caden and their friend loved this "dragon ride" .

This is Trinity. She is 4 weeks old. I will be watching her in 2 weeks. She is so tiny and has a GREAT set of lungs. Isn't she cute though? He MOM when are you coming for a visit? LOL. I will only have her for 3 weeks. Then her mom has 3 weeks paid vacation. I am sure I will need the rest.

This is Logan. The 4 month old I watch. I have had him a little over 2 months. He is such a good baby! Just like most males, he eats, sleeps {but waits till Dad picks him up before he poops!} I have trained him well!!! Taylor is so excited that school is out so she can help me with him. She was very disappointed that he sleeps a lot.

TAYLOR WAS ACCEPTED INTO THE GREELEY CHILDREN'S CHORAL. SHE RECEIVED HER LETTER ON THURSDAY. SHE WAS VERY EXCITED. SHE WILL BE SINGING THE NATIONAL ANTHEM AT A CO ROCKIES GAME, UNC BEARS GAME, AND THEY SING AT SEVERAL DIFFERENT FUNCTIONS AND CONCERTS. SHE HAS BEEN PRACTICING VERY HARD. THERE IS ONLY 4 DAYS OF SCHOOL LEFT. I AM DREADING IT AND LOOKING FORWARD TO IT AT THE SAME TIME. I CANT WAIT TO SLEEP IN! BUT I WILL HAVE TO KEEP THE KIDS ENTERTAINED. HEAVEN FORBID THEY GET BORED. LOL! I WILL HAVE 5 DAY CARE KIDS THIS SUMMER. TWO OF THEM ARE INFANTS. I AM NOT DOING SLUMBER PARTIES ANY MORE. I JUST HIT MY 2 YEAR ANNIVERSARY AND DECIDED IT WAS ENOUGH. I WAS GETTING BORED AND I WANTED THE WEEKENDS BACK WITH MY FAMILY. I STARTED WORKING OUT WITH MY FRIEND THAT LIVES ACROSS THE STREET FROM ME. SHE WORKS AT THE HOSPITAL AND CAN USE THE GYM. NEEDLESS TO SAY..I AM A LITTLE SORE TODAY. JAMIE AND I WORKED IN THE YARD MOST OF THE DAY, AND THEN I WENT AND WORKED OUT. MY BACK DECIDED IT DIDN'T LIKE THAT, AND WENT OUT HALF WAY THROUGH MY WORKOUT. I FEEL SO OLD TODAY!! I TOOK A HYDROCODONE AND AM FEELING A LITTLE BETTER!!!! I AM RE-READING WHAT I JUST WROTE AND I AM RAMBLING. LOVE YOU ALL........

AGH! I am not very good at this. I promised Mom and Kim that I would. So here I am. I would rather copy pictures and leave it at that, but I have no new pictures to share. Life is interesting this week. Jamie is in Washington at a Master rigging course. He was able to hook up with some old friends in Oregon and didnt get much sleep last night. But I hear he won at video golf....lost at darts. That leaves me with the kids. Jarod has signed up for Cub Scouts. Which is great. They meet every Monday night for 2 hours. The parents have to stay and help. Not a problem.....Except Jamie's gone!!! Caden and Taylor were not so happy to be there. Needless to say... I could never be a "single parent". Jarod had a little incident at school yesterday. One of his friends was swinging him around against his wishes {so he says} When he planted his feet to stop his friends head hit Jarod in the mouth. He has a split lip, and knocked a baby tooth loose. So goes the life of Jarod. Taylor is trying out for the Greeley children's choir. They are practicing this week and auditions are next week. We will keep you posted. Caden is...well....Caden. He keeps me busy. He is VERY excited to go to Kindergarten next year. Well I am off to do the mom thing. till next time....

In January Taylor was baptized. She worked so hard. The missionaries were coming over twice a week. The boys are now excited to "Go into the bathtub and get dunked by Grandpa" Here is a picture of our family with two of the sister missionaries. Yes! That is Jamie in a Mormon church. we are all so proud of Taylor and her choice to get baptized.
